Scrap yarn cape

Published by dunappaloosa at 7:36 pm under Crochet and knitting Edit This

I created a beautiful and colorful cape from a variety of scrap bouclé spun yarns.

I started with a chain of about 90 stitches and then double crochet most of the rest of the item. The biggest changes were the size of the crochet hook.

The first yarn (the dark maroon at the top) was quite bulky but I wanted some close stitches for the button to set in well.

Row 2-3 double crochet two rows with a K (10.5/6.5mm) hook.

Row 4-5 Double crochet with an N (13/9mm) hook

Row 5 (last with that color) Double crochet with a P (11.5mm)

Then I switched yarns because I ran out of the Maroon

The rest of the yarns were a lighter weight so I dropped back down to the K hook again and double crocheted all the rows until I ran out of yarn in each color.

On the purple, I added in one row of single crochet at the end because a Double was not enough yarn. But the single crochet fit all the way across.

On the turquoise, I had more yarn left over and had the choice between continuing to make the cape longer or using it as a border to go around all the colors. So the very last row was a single crochet all the way across, Chain one and crochet up the edge and all the way around. Then I created a buttonhole by crocheting a chain of 7 stitches, joining the chain back to the work and then turning and crocheting one more row of single crochet around the buttonhole.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out this pattern. I have a tendency to just “make up” stuff with some other pattern as a guideline or starter.

I have another quick and easy project pattern that will post soon so if you are looking for another project, drop back by and check it out also.
