Local Competitve Ride Events for May
I have not had an opportunity to compete at Navajo Lake yet, but this seems like one of the neatest rides. With Topper in the Hospital pen I only have Ladybug who is rideable, but she’s not ready this year for such a ride. Bummer I’ll have to miss the May Rides. If you are interested in competing, now is the time to start making sure your horse is fit enough to compete.
NAVAJO LAKE “BILL SMITH MEMORIAL” COMPETIVE TRAIL RIDE
FARMINGTON, NM MAY 9-10, 2009 Rider limit 60
The San Juan Valley Trail Riders invite you to be part of NATRC history. Ride the 35th annual Navajo Lake Ride, the longest continuous ride in NATRC and the 3rd annual Bill Smith Memorial ride on Mother’s Day weekend. This ride will traverse varied terrain of mesas, arroyos, beautiful rock formations and pinon forest in the spectacular and scenic area around the Navajo Lake Dam. Come enjoy the fun, especially our famous “Mother’s Day Trail” filled with small surprises! Your horse needs to be in relatively good condition.
Although I’d really like to check this ride out, it’s pretty far away from my house. I’d almost have to take a full week off to get there and get home.
REGION 3 BENEFIT RIDE AT THE AIR FORCE
COLO. SPRINGS, COLO MAY 23-24, 2009 Rider limit 60
This will be held at the beautiful Air Force Academy for the 33rd year and is one of the “DON’T MISS” rides! The trails are spectacular, filled with wildlife, and very scenic. The Academy is listed as one of the 1000 places to see before you die. On Memorial Weekend this beautiful ride will traverse the high plains up to mountainous trails from where you can see all of greater Colorado Springs area and more. Your horse needs to be in relatively good condition.
For more information on either ride, you can click NATRC to visit their website.

Hi Lisa, I live about an hour and a half west of Albuquerque in the sleepy little town of Thoreau, population 2,000 if everyone shows up for the flea market on Saturdays. LOL
